This initiative has transformed many schoolyards from asphalt and weedy lots into dynamic and engaging spaces that provide many learning opportunities. A unique “kit of parts” was created by the design team and implemented in different ways at each school to meet their specific needs. These revitalized schoolyards were designed to be flexible and can be used in many different ways. They all contain gathering spaces amid a backdrop of green spaces with a variety of interesting plants. The schoolyards are now used regularly as outdoor classrooms where kids can have hands-on experiences for subjects like science, art, and writing.
