Brumleby is a historic social housing development built in Copenhagen in the mid-1800s, made up of a series of terraced houses. MONSTRUM’s design for this playground draws on this history, referencing the former dairy and slaughterhouse that were located on this site. The main portion of the playground is modeled after three houses, a baker’s shop, and an ice-cream booth. These structures play homage to the surrounding buildings, with a topsy-turvy twist.
The playground design allows for a wide variety of play opportunities, including: climbing grips on the walls, slides from the windows, and balancing beams that connect the houses. This means that children playing here can use their imaginations and come up with new ways to play every time they visit the playground. The ground surface below the play structures is poured green rubber to provide a safe fall zone. Additional play equipment including a seesaw is located adjacent to the main play area.
