This public precinct project by ASPECT Studios is very large in scale, at 15,000 square meters. Included in the precinct is a new urban play space, offering an adventurous and highly interactive play experience that is based on the Australian climate. Water features prominently throughout this play area. The playground itself is 4000 square meters.
The water play offers many interactive opportunities, featuring sluice gates, hand pumps, and an “Archimedes” screw which draws water up and channels it back into a myriad of sculptural concrete streams. These stainless steel elements promote social interaction and learning while referencing the industrial history of the site. There is also a “dry” playground with sand pits, a flying fox, giant climbing frames, and group slides. In addition, there are permanent Ping Pong tables installed in the park. The result is a play area that appeals to a wide range of age groups, with opportunities for children and adults alike to enjoy the design.
