PWL was retained by the City of Vancouver to design and implement the central community park in Southeast False Creek, known as Hinge Park. The design was produced in collaboration with Pechet Studios, using a unique design approach that combined historical references to the former City Worksyard site with the creation of a naturalized wetland environment.
This wetland manages rainwater runoff from the surrounding neighbourhoods and provides natural habitat to a wide variety of plant and animal species. Amenities include an innovative children’s playground among an array of active and passive spaces. The colour and material palette is simple, using a combination of corten steel, granite, and stainless steel.
