Theme: Let’s Make New Outdoor Play
The name LMNOP was used both as a philosophy (“Let’s Make New Outdoor Play”) and as a rating system for the value of play elements in the schoolyard (Learn, Maintain, Nurture, Opportunity, and Participation). The new design makes use of existing features like slopes as unique play opportunities like “the Grind” and “Nature Play”. The site plan breaks up spaces into irregular shapes, making the schoolyard and park more fun and exciting to travel through.
Several types of play are layered into the play areas: Participatory, Inclusive, and Contemplative. This gives every child a rich environment to play in their own style, whether it’s with other kids or alone with their own thoughts.
