Using the three existing landscape types in the park, plancontext created three “parks within a park.” These are: the Lake Park, the Forest Park, and the Field Park. These three sections are connected by an enveloping sculptural series of promenades, the “loop.”
Each of these zones is linked to its location and the requirements of different age groups. In the Field Loop, spring-mounted sheep and balancing boards provide a physical challenge for small children. Sand acts as both a soft surface and a play material. A single black sheep adds a little bit of humour to the design. The Water Loop offers a series of water play elements, with a blue poured rubber surface surrounding a sand pit. Built-in seating offers a resting place, or a place for caregivers to supervise from. Finally, the Forest Loop is aimed at older children, with several connected net bridges and larger slides. Here, wood chips replace sand as the soft surfacing.
