Rooke Reserve is a large-scale playground (15,000 square meters) located in an Australian residential development. The location and design of this play environment provides a series of well-defined pedestrian and bicycle connections to surrounding residential neighbourhoods, a bicycle network, and schools.
The main considerations for the design of Rooke Reserve are play, water management, and sustainable construction practices. It was critical for Spiire to create a design that provided play areas for ages 2-12, while also including areas where people of all ages could engage in recreational activities. With the surrounding western basalt plains providing a scenic outlook, the design works to stimulate the senses through plant colour and texture, mixed topography and the use of a diverse range of construction materials.
