Terra Nova responds to its landscape setting along the Fraser River. Although the park includes several recognizable pieces of play equipment, the majority are constructed using natural materials that reflect the character of the Pacific Northwest. This play equipment provides a more tactile and organic alternative to conventional “kit” playgrounds, and encourages children to reflect on their surrounding environment. By using natural materials such as wood, bark mulch, and native plantings, regional character can be better represented and become a more environmentally friendly landscape.
