Public swimming pools are a big part of summer life in Montreal. They are a little island within the hot city of refreshment, relaxation, and play. In the summer of 2011, this “virtual swimming pool” was installed in a large public plaza at the centre of the city. Equipped with playful furniture reminiscent of water fun, the swimming pool hides several play opportunities within its pixelated design. There is a hopscotch court, numerous chessboards, and a giant tangram puzzle. The installation is designed to accommodate large crowds during special events, and is a fun community gathering space.
