This play area replaced a former parking lot that was converted into an underground parking garage. By moving the parking underground, an opportunity was presented to create a public square with a play area and sport courts. These areas form the heart of the square, and are framed by planting.
The playground is a large, undulating surface, into which several different play equipment zones are inserted. The play equipment was designed specifically for this site, and includes two climbing towers with slides, a sandpit, seating areas, swings, and a hammock forest. This selection of equipment offers varying degrees of challenge for all ages.
There are two sport courts: one that is recessed and provides an edge condition conducive to skateboarders, and a non-recessed one. The recessed court also doubles as a waterpark in summertime, and an ice rink in the winter.
