Metal can be used to construct play mounds, and can be finished in a number of different ways. If a plain metal finish is desired, it is best to place these play elements in a shady portion of the playground so they don’t overheat during the summertime. In terms of play value, metal mounds provide a unique physical challenge and element to conquer on the school ground. Once you have made it to the mound summit, soft surfacing around the mound will make it safe to jump off the top or slide back to the ground. These mounds also encourage social play – for smaller children, it may be necessary to cooperate with your friends in order to make it to the top.
