While thinking of a wooden playground may bring up images of 1970s-era equipment, wood can be incorporated into contemporary play environments in exciting ways. Whole logs are used to great effect in Hapa Collaborative’s design, while individual boards are frequently deployed in Monstrum’s designs. The whole logs are connected together to create a challenging and exciting play structure. Generally quite long-lasting, the durability of these structures will depend upon the finish or treatment applied to the wood.
