Retaining Walls

Have slopes? Add retaining walls! A must for any steep school yard, retaining walls provide an opportunity to create fun sit-able spaces. They can double as seating for an outdoor lesson, or the basis for a challenging game. Many different materials are possible, such as recycled rubble-filled gabions, brick, and poured concrete to name just a few. Depending on the desired finish, students can get involved in the creation of a retaining wall by fundraising for legacy bricks, or painting tiles that can be added to the face of a concrete wall.
